As London's property boom peaked, attempts to re-brand this picturesque South London district affectively known as "South Chelsea" caused eyebrows to be raised amongst even the most gung-ho members of the industry. However, Battersea has always had plenty going for it despite being separated from its trendy northern neighbour by the River Thames. Good transport links are set to be augmented by the Northern Line Tube extension that will connect the area directly to the West End and the City.

A prosperous mix of trendy professionals and families occupy a large proportion of the homes that lie between Clapham and Wandsworth Common. Typified by the fashionable young mums that are to be found lunching along Northcote Road, the area has been nicknamed "Nappy Valley". The fact that people are ready to put down roots in Battersea, speaks volumes about its viability as a desirable, family-friendly place to live.

Heading north towards the river brings you to Battersea Park which contains a well managed children's zoo and stunning views of the opposing embankment. Another arresting sight is that of the distinctive silhouette of Battersea Power Station, Europe's largest brick structure and one of London's most familiar landmarks. Now fully redeveloped, it links Battersea to the massive regeneration initiative that is transforming the Thames shoreline of Nine Elms.
