Accommodation in Bermondsey has been given a boost by developers, keen to find imaginative solutions to increased demand for flats to rent in London. This is the South London neighbourhood that directly faces the City at Tower Bridge and parts of it are therefore well within jogging and cycling distance for most health-conscious corporate workers. However, as new developments spread south and east from fashionable Shad Thames, the rest of Bermondsey has started to take on a trendy new look, signalled by the opening of artisan coffee shops, design galleries and funky bars.

Greenland Place and Bermondsey Works are two new build projects that take advantage of the industrial heritage of the area. Built on the site of an inland dock and an old factory respectively, they bring a fresh perspective to the streets between Rotherhithe and Old Kent Road. It's an area that the London authorities have been keen to develop and plans are being discussed that will see the Bakerloo Underground network extend from Elephant and Castle, through the area and on to Lewisham. In the meantime, Bermondsey is well served by its own Jubilee line station which links London Bridge to Canary Wharf. Surrey Quays is the sight of both an Overground link to Stratford and also a river taxi that connects to Docklands, City and the West End.
