Tucked away at the top left hand corner of Regent's Park, St. John's Wood is thus protected from bustling Camden which lies to the east while the stately Lord's cricket ground shields it from the ever so slightly more downmarket environs of Maida Vale in the west. Up to the 19th century in London, even exclusive districts consisted of a large proportion of terraced housing. St. John's Wood however was one of the first London suburbs to be developed with a large amount of low density "villa" housing. This fortuitous experiment has therefore ensured that it has always retained a highly desirable cachet even amongst districts of comparable wealth. A more contemporary claim to fame is the existence on its doorstep of Abbey Road studios which was the creative headquarters of the legendary pop group The Beatles and the place where they recorded their world acclaimed albums - indeed Paul McCartney still owns property in the area.

St. John's Wood is upscale in every way and is an eminently prestigious location in which to find rental accommodation. At its centre is a self-contained and prosperous high street that attracts exclusive retailers and fashion outlets that in turn attract the kind of shopper who think a budget is a small caged bird.

A stroll through Regent's Park gets you to Marylebone High Street; such is St. John's Wood's proximity to the heart of the West End and its attendant attractions. The Jubilee line tube station is just around the corner from the high street and will have you skipping into Selfridges in 10 minutes flat.
