The stunning red brick terraces that are typical of this area contribute greatly to its air of well-heeled attractiveness and are a veritable magnet for young professionals and media high-flyers. Consisting of a cluster of smart streets off the main artery that is West End Lane, West Hampstead is regarded as a less stuffy version of its north-eastern neighbour known simply as Hampstead, but a closer look reveals a character and charm that is all its own.

Home to no less than three train stations, this neighbourhood is ridiculously well connected, yet the high street still maintains an independently quirky character as local shops, bakeries and restaurants all thrive despite the presence of the giant O2 shopping and cinema complex at the southern end of the "Lane". Those wishing to indulge in a bit of label chasing can pop over the A41 to Hampstead or even venture three stops south on the Jubilee line to where they will find the boutique filled avenues of St John's Wood a more than adequate retail diversion.

One of the afore-mentioned stations has undergone a total facelift due to the fact that it now connects Luton airport to the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras and furthermore to Gatwick airport in the south making West Hampstead a gateway to international travel of sorts! But on the serious side, this neighbourhood is so accessible yet so well preserved as to be virtually recession-proof and therefore rental accommodation of the highest standard is much required by high income individuals and companies wishing to settle their people near to the city centre. Nightlife is a little less pretentious than Hampstead but more mature than Camden Town and tends to revolve around a smattering of good restaurants, pubs and bars which offer a sophisticated night out without the red-carpet fuss.

West Hampstead has an embarrassment of transportation riches with West End Lane an important interchange between three stations - West Hampstead Underground Station, West Hampstead Thameslink, and West Hampstead Silverlink Metro (which are all only a minute from each other). There are plenty of buses connecting the area with other parts of London.
