Galleries, design studios, internet start-ups and ironic "drinking dens" all comfortably exist together in Shoreditch. The London epicentre of all that is cool and hip in the capital seems to be able to effortlessly work this maze of Dickensian streets to its full advantage. Disparate businesses and buildings all share the same contemporary outlook that makes Shoreditch such an irresistible draw to business-minded creative. However, the area has the substance to back up the hype. Ten years ago, the idea of a "Silicon Roundabout" with Shoreditch as its fulcrum seemed a bit fanciful, but today the area's status as an internationally recognised tech hub is well established and hence has brought much interest from property developers who are keen to provide rental property to meet demand.

Being a close neighbour to the City has certainly been a benefit. City workers can pop over for an artisan coffee or grab a Korean taco from a van outside Spitalfields market. They'll see plenty of new property developments harmoniously integrated into the original east end landscape and be back at their desks in no time at all. Smart new residences like Avant-garde are proof positive that these visits are turning into a more permanent presence. The Northern line Tube station at Old Street connects Shoreditch to both St Pancras and London Bridge rail hubs while Liverpool Street station is part of the vital Circle Line network which puts the whole of the West End within easy reach.
